As the Quadricentennial batch leaves our university, a few thoughts:

Remember the time you stepped into your first class in college? Nervous, yet optimistic. Those who entered the university in 2007 have been bombarded with messages of pride and excitement, and four years later we realize that we didn’t even need the nagging — that the Alma Mater per se, the years that we’ll battle through college life, regrets-turned-successes, everything that we have learned and all the friends that we have made, are enough give us pride.

Now as our friends enter a new chapter in their lives, we look back before we’d finally have to look forward: We’ve earned the stripes that make us worthy of the roles we’ve chosen to play in the society. As we part with the people we’ve been so used to seeing daily, we remember one grand party — one that has lasted our entire college life. Past the pains, our sacrifices and hard work, we just look back and see that there is nothing behind us that doesn’t deserve a celebration.

Today we live the sum of all those parts.

All those, in four years.

We’ve kept our calm, and after we’ve counted our own years, we get an idea of what our Alma Mater has endured - an incredible, awesome and utterly unbelievable four centuries. Almost half a millennium of shaping our culture and the society, and countless Thomasian alumni that have chosen to and succeeded in making a difference. They are the very people who have taught us that more than just hard work and knowledge, our values will push this country forward; that our strength of character will change the world, one step at a time.

And it’s our turn now.

It won’t be easy after this, but it will be all worth it.

Kudos to all Thomasian graduates at four (freaking) hundred.
